Ask the Council to support homeless services

Unless we act today, no families are getting into shelter until next winter and 100s of kids will sleep on the street, in parks or abandoned buildings.

It’s time to take action!
The FY2013 budget being discussed by the City Council underfunds homeless services by $7 million. Unless we restore this funding:

Shelters will close! Half the beds will be cut for men and women next spring and more than 700 individuals will be turned out to the street;
Food, transportation, job training, outreach and other services will be cut; AND
No families will be placed in shelter except when it is freezing outside.

Research tells us that providing affordable housing will help lift families out of poverty and help us strengthen our economy, build our neighborhoods and empower our families across the District. What research can’t tell us are the personal stories of those who are most impacted by the lack of safe, stable housing.
