empower our families

The family is a crucial institution in any campaign against poverty. Family members support one another in countless ways that further education and employment opportunities by providing love and encouragement, caring for children, helping with transportation, and in countless other ways.

While families can positively prevent individuals from falling into poverty, the reverse is also true – poverty causes family relationships to fray, often with devastating consequences. Families on the cusp of poverty or almost able to climb out of it often slip because of disintegrating family relationships caused by the stress of poverty.

When those not living in poverty begin to help their neighbors in need, they affirm the central ideals and values of their faith. Social Justice is critical to how faith communities grow and expand. This issue matters to your congregation and community and to every family in the city.

When we empower our families, the effects trickle up. We see more diverse and vibrant communities, viable and healthy neighborhoods and an improved quality of life for everyone in the city.
